STEAM Academy recently named Ashley Rosen the STEAM Teacher of the Year. Ms. Rosen has been serving the students and families of STEAM Academy since 2015 and has worked in Fayette County since 2008 when she started teaching Science at Winburn Middle School. She joined STEAM Academy at the original campus, 123 East 6th Street, and was instrumental in building the culture of project-based learning that we are known for. Ms. Rosen has worked in several committees that have developed and sharpened our STEAM Habits, our Elevate platform, and building wide policies. Rosen also serves as our STC, handling all aspects of the technology in the building. This includes student and staff devices, Viewsonics and printers, and even our website. What students and staff have come to count on from Ms. Rosen is an “all in” enthusiasm to create environments where learning and leadership thrive. She is passionate about not only science, but the whole picture of learning at STEAM Academy.
When Rosen is not wearing her teacher hat, you’ll find her at festivals, beaches, concerts, and basketball games. She is a proud twin sister and daughter to a strong, tight knit family that still resides in her hometown of South Williamson, Kentucky. Ms. Rosen attended Belfry High School and played four years of high school girls’ basketball and also played at the Collegiate Level at Costal Carolina University.
In 2019, Ms. Rosen was one of two teachers selected from Fayette County for the NASA Airborne Astronomy Ambassadors program. She was able to join top NASA researchers and fly on a Boeing 747 Special Performance airplane conducting research. She was able to bring those experiences back to STEAM and her students and every once in a while, you may see her sporting her NASA gear around school. Here are just a few quotes from emails that came across the news desk this week!
“Rosen always goes above and beyond her call of duty and she has the best kicks.”
“Rosen and Strange both seem to be everywhere all at once.”
“Ms. Rosen is one of the most dedicated educators you’ll ever meet. She has gone above and beyond her entire career and is always willing to help to make STEAM great. The whole team consistently counts on her reliability. She is a core part of our team that manages the ultra-difficult task of taking children walking in the door and transitioning them to young adults as they leave her classes. And, along the way, helps them understand the core scientific inquiry mission of STEAM Academy.”
“Rosen is a fantastic resource for all things tech! She helps me out often and with patience.”
