The basis of any school is the front office. What may be considered the heart of the school, a front office is vital. A place for students to come for help, teachers to hang out, and parents to contact. The front office employees are the face of the school, for everyone to see as they enter the school.
Well-known among the student body, Mrs. Guy is STEAM Academy’s front office assistant. A bright and friendly face when you walk through the doors at STEAM, Mrs. Guy wears many different hats. If you’ve ever checked out early, she was probably the front office person who helped you. If you ever have to call STEAM, she might be the one who picks up. When it comes time for students to start driving, Mrs. Guy helps them with the no pass no drive form. She helps Mr. Hendrix with transportation and even occasionally plays the role of attendance specialist when Mrs. Grupe is out. If you’ve ever been in the office, more than likely you’ve seen her. As an office assistant, Mrs. Guy ensures that everything in the office is running smoothly day to day. From emailing information to all sorts of important people to being able to point kids in the right direction, Mrs. Guy is vital to the front office workspace.
Any good front office employee makes sure that people feel at home. This is clear when you walk through the glass door that leads to the office. “I love coming to work, I love working with the staff I work with”, according to Mrs. Guy. She loves every part of her job and looks forward to coming to work every day. Students can see her enthusiasm for her job too. Always smiling and welcoming, Mrs. Guy makes an effort to help everyone.
She didn’t always work in STEAM’s front office, though. Mrs. Guy used to work as a bus driver. According to her, she left the bus garage 7 years ago, saying “I just needed a change.” Luckily for her, STEAM had a job opening for a front office assistant. She went in for an interview, and it was an instant click.
Mrs. Guy is also a BCTC alum and graduated with an associate’s degree in applied science and administrative assistance. BCTC is known for having the lowest tuition rate in Kentucky and prides itself on being able to help students anywhere afford college. According to their website, one full year at a university costs the same as two years at BCTC. It’s a great college for any kid to get a degree.
Overall, Mrs. Guy is essential to STEAM’s front office. She’s one of the first faces you see when you enter the front office, and she makes an effort to help everybody. Whether you’re a parent picking up your child or a student who needs a no pass no drive form, Mrs. Guy will be there to help you.
