There is a school in our very own Lexington dedicated to help students achieve their dream jobs with specialized classes. The Hill is the name given to the merger of the Eastside and Southside technical schools, opening Fall of 2025, and I got in contact with the principal of The Hill, Michelle Wilson, to ask her a few questions I had.
The Hill stands for the Hub for Innovative Learning and Leadership. “We want students to rise up, push boundaries, and lead innovation in their fields. The name embodies our purpose: a place where students go beyond learning skills—they refine them, apply them, and shape the future of their industries.” As stated by Michelle Wilson.

The Hill offers 19 various learning experiences for students that gets them started in the specific industries chosen. Students get the opportunity to “…design, build, code, and even save lives through programs in Technical Trades & Public Services, Advanced Technology & Engineering, and Healthcare & Human Services.”
These learning experiences include:
- Welding
- Firefighting Science
- Law Enforcement
- Construction Carpentry
- Automotive Technology
- Diesel Technology
- Heavy Equipment & Trucking Operation
- Cybersecurity
- Electrical/Electronics Technology
- Aviation & Drones Technology
- Digital Design & Game Development
- Computerized Machining & Design
- Industrial Engineering
- Pre-Nursing
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Medical Sciences
- Pre-Pharmacy
- Culinary arts
“New students should expect a process that helps them discover their passions and match their interests with the right pathway.” Answered Michelle Wilson when asked what new students should expect when applying to the Hill. “The application process is designed to ensure that students are ready to dive into real-world projects and collaborate with industry professionals. It’s about finding what excites you” – “Be prepared to challenge yourself and embrace new experiences.”
Current students of either Eastside or Southside must have heard their teachers talk about their classrooms at The Hill. “Upon arriving at The HILL, students will step into an innovative environment designed for future-ready learners.” Stated Michelle Wilson. But what sets The Hill apart from other innovative environments for students? The Hill includes Industry Level labs and equipment, Cross-pathway collaboration, Industry mentors and Real world projects, and a fast paced, future ready mindset. “Both new and returning students will be challenged, supported, and empowered as they grow into leaders ready to make an impact.”
Michelle Wilson hopes for The Hill to achieve student success in whatever field they choose. “…our goal is for students to leave not just job-ready but innovation-ready. We aim to develop leaders, problem solvers, and creators who don’t just follow trends—they set them.” As said by Michelle Wilson. “Our mission is to equip students with the skills and experiences needed to step into high-demand careers, start their own businesses, or continue their education.”
I thank Michelle Wilson for answering my questions, and hopefully yours too, about The Hill. It is important for students to understand that college is not the only pathway to become successful, and The Hill could help students realize their passions and pathways to success through their passions. The Hill is a great option for those who want to pursue careers in either Technical Trades & Public Services, or Advanced Technology & Engineering, or even Healthcare & Human Services.
