During my final year at STEAM Academy, I made a project to create a drawing of the school to be displayed at the entrance. My objective is to leave a lasting gift for the place that has shaped my educational journey. Often, after graduation, students may overlook the experiences that have influenced their growth and the foundation from which they came. This drawing will serve as a personal milestone for me while also inspiring incoming freshmen to appreciate their beginnings and wonder about the identity of the artist once I have graduated. I hope soon-to-be graduates will take a moment to reflect on my work and the emotions it develops. Additionally, I aim for juniors and sophomores to admire the drawing and consider their own educational paths. This piece was at least eight hours of dedicated effort. After I finished the drawing, I engaged with some students to gather their thoughts and feelings about it. One of my peers, Kylie Cummins has expressed her opinions on my piece. She explains, “It is very well drawn and the proportions are correct, it shows a good depiction of our school.” I then go on to ask how hanging up this drawing will help future students. “Yeah, this will help freshmen because I feel like it’ll show the incoming artistic students that they can show their own abilities while being included and being themselves,” I asked another student, who’s a sophomore that’s a few grades below me named Joel Ndayisaba. He exclaims “It’s a nice drawing, and yeah it would be good to hang up in the school because the picture is very inspiring and the freshmen need inspiring stuff to not fall behind in school.” Given all these points, other students find my drawing influential and helpful. I hope to see new incoming freshmen welcomed in on their first day, see my drawing, and feel at home.
