It’s been heard recently that new Pokemon games have been introduced. On February 27th 2026, the franchise’s 30th anniversary, Pokemon announced there would be two new games. Starting off the new 10th generation of Pokemon video games. One is called ‘Pokemon Winds’ and the other is ‘Pokemon Waves.’ For this announcement, a trailer has been put on YouTube to furthermore introduce these new games. The trailer is only 3:32 minutes long. In this trailer, it shows that they are both exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. Not only does it include that, it also includes exciting environments. Like a tropical jungle and underwater environment. This can only mean one thing, new and different environments! Multiple new environments, the player can go to. With it being the start of a new generation, new Pokemon are introduced. In which, three unique starter Pokemon have been introduced. A grass type bird named Browt, a fire type dog named Pombon, and lastly, a water type lizard named Gecqua. And I am here to review them! And give my opinion on them and their designs.
First up Browt!
With this design, I feel very underwhelmed by it. I don’t hate the design. It just seemed like for the design, to make it look more like grass type, the designers just put two leaves and made them eyebrows for the bird. I wish there was more of a design to this Pokemon. Since It does look like a knockoff of a Pokemon, Torchic, a fire bird Pokemon. Though, It is interesting to see that the leaf eyebrows are connected to the beak. Because of the connection between the leaf eyebrows and beak, it makes it look like a plant sprout.
Which makes sense why the name of the Pokemon is ‘Browt.’ But I still think the design itself is still cute. I mean, it’s the first evolution of this Pokemon. Meaning, it is a ‘baby’ pokemon. Baby Pokemon are Pokemon that are in their first stage of evolution, and are cute. I just wish there would be more of an earth design for this Pokemon. But who’s to say that the next two evolutions won’t have those types of designs? I mean, for most starters in the games in the past, they’ve had two more evolutions to evolve into. So there is hope that the evolution designers will have taken more of a creative liberty route with their designs.
Next up, is Pombon!
For this design, I also find it cute. I like how this time, one of the starters is a dog. Not just a dog, a fire type dog! To me, it looks a lot like a Pomeranian, a dog breed. I mean it does look similar. With a big amount of fur, and its short stature it does start to look like a Pomeranian. But, besides that, I like the amount of fur it has, especially how much there is around the face of it. Because of that, it seems to look like an open flame. Either that, it just looks like a dog. But, Browt and Pombon have the same problem. I wish there were more fire aspects to it. It’s supposed to be cute, the designers knew what they were doing with that. I know that of course, but maybe a few more colors could be added to it?
Like the colors of a more cartoonish flame. Some more yellow and some more red. In this design I see most of the orange in it. And I don’t hate that, but I wish there would be more colors. Even with Browt, the design had more than two colors. There’s not even a lot of red into the design. It’s just mostly orange. Though, as I stated before, the starters should have at least two more evolutions. So there is hope for the other two evolutions to have better designs. However, there is an issue that might happen in the designs for the evolutions. Pokemon like these, in their evolutions sometimes don’t stay on all fours. For some reason the second or final evolution doesn’t stay on all four legs. Which makes the Pokemon appear more human-like rather than pet or companion-like.
Now, last but not least, Gecqua!
Now, this design, I really adore this design. This design doesn’t have the problem that the other two had. This design has more than two colors, and this design is original. Compared to the others, this design is unique, nothing seen before. I really like the details like the different colored toes on the feet, and the spot or two on the tail. I also like that not only does it look like it has eyelashes but I like that the eyes have different colors than the others do. It may have black in the irises, but it also includes purple. Which I find a good feature in this design, to add a color that isn’t a different shade of blue. I also notice the very skinny pupil in the eyes, which I agree with this choice for the design since it makes it look like a gecko or a lizard. Which of course is the point of the pokemon. I really hope that the next two evolutions build upon this design and make it even better!
That is all folks! I have finished my reviews of the new starter pokemon, Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua. Hope you enjoyed my review! And maybe you even shared the same ideas with me. Though, remember everyone is entitled to their own opinions, so you may have different thoughts than me. But feel free to comment your opinions on the new games!
