Wellness Classes take on Bystander Intervention

This week, Mr. Manley’s classes created presentations to advocate for bystander intervention when there are medical emergencies. They created a social media post in their online peer communities and created presentations about the importance of being willing to get involved when emergencies occur.
Students used a workshop model to effectively manage time between practicing CPR, learning about cardiac emergencies, and producing an example of public health advocacy that teaches young people what cardiac emergencies are, why CPR is important, and how to best equip themselves to respond. Student groups met with Mr. Hendrix during the week and interviewed him about our building’s cardiac emergency response team and steps we take to intervene if there is an emergency in the building.
Groups presented their research to various classes at STEAM and had the opportunity to practice their presentation skills. This is a great example of true collaboration and authentic real-world learning.
